"There are no strangers, only friends who have not met."
The Newcomers-Encore Club is a social club open to all residents of Short Hills and Millburn, no matter how long they’ve lived in the area. The club, which is run by member volunteers, organizes activities for the whole family during the week, in the evenings and on the weekends. One of the primary goals is to seek out those newly arrived in the area, to make sure they know they’ll be welcome here and find friendship.
Although the club is committed to seeking out new residents, a vital part of our group is the Encore segment – members who have lived in the area a few years or more. Many times, Encore members have joined to become more active in their communities or just to reinvigorate their social lives. It is a great way to meet people in town, even if you have lived here a long time.

The Club is famous for its invaluable group e-mail service. Membership to the Newcomers-Encore Club gets you immediate access to a tool that allows you to query the community for recommendations about:
- • A babysitter or childcare
- • A painter because you can't paint it yourself
- • A contractor to fix your roof or other parts of your house
- • An interior decorator or great furniture buys
- • A doctor, dentist or speech therapist
- • A suggestion for your child's birthday party
- • A place to donate clothing
- • Or, anything else you might need...
You’ll be able to send your own e-mails, see other people’s questions and recommendations, and search a rich database of information stored online. The best part is that the recommendations come from people you know and trust in our community.
The Newcomers-Enclore Club publishes a monthly newsletter with an update from our president, as well as information about upcoming events, activities, programs and socials. It also has a convenient activities calendar, and officially welcomes newcomers to our club.
The Newcomers-Encore Club of Millburn and Short Hills has a rich, 35-year history of bringing old and new neighbors together. Begun in 1973 by six friends, the club’s original goal was to provide newcomers the opportunity to become acquainted with their neighbors and community. In 1977, the Epilogue segment was created (now called Encore) and in 1989, the groups merged to become the current-day Newcomers-Encore Club of Short Hills and Millburn. Now open to all residents, the club has grown to a membership of more than 300 families.
